Macy, Rossum starring in Showtime’s ‘Shameless’

LOS ANGELES — The long-running British TV drama “Shameless” is being adapted for Showtime with William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum leading the cast.

The premium cable channel said Thursday it’s ordered 12 episodes of the series about a Chicago blue-collar family. The executive producers are the drama’s original creator, Paul Abbott, and John Wells, whose credits include “ER” and “The West Wing.”

Allison Janney (”The West Wing”) will have a recurring role.

Macy’s films include “Fargo” and “The Cooler,” while Rossum starred in “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Production begins late this summer. An air date was not announced.
