Wonderland Rules Global Box Office

TIM BURTON’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND continues to work its magic on movie fans - the film has topped the global box office for the fourth consecutive week.

The Disney fantasy grossed $46 million (£30.7 million) from audiences worldwide at the weekend (26-28Mar10), taking its profits outside of the U.S. to $363 million (£242 million) and its total global gross to $656.1 million (£437.4 million).

Gerard Butler’s animated Viking adventure How To Train Your Dragon debuts at two with $31 million (£20.7 million) from 35 markets, after a weekend which saw the movie slay the competition in the U.S. box office chart to take the number one position with $43.3 million (£28.87 million).

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio’s psychological thriller Shutter Island lands in third place in the global box office with $10 million (£6.7 million); sci-fi epic Avatar still draws fans in fourth position, and Sandra Bullock’s Oscar-winning drama The Blind Side rounds out the top five.
