Feb 3, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Vidya Malvade first raised eyebrows when she played a young married hockey player in ‘Chak De India’ and shared screen space with the stalwart Shahrukh Khan. This delicate beauty also got a chance to act along with Sanjay Dutt in ‘Kidnap’. Vidya has done few movies in Bollywood and so is comparatively fresh in showbiz. The actress is taking the tried and tested ‘slow and steady’ route to success. Now with her upcoming film ‘Striker’, where she is playing actor Siddharth’s sister, this pretty actress is all set to impress audience.

Tell us about the character you play in ‘Striker’.

My character’s name is ‘Devi’ who is Surya’s (Siddharth) sister in the movie. She is a vivacious and no non-sense girl. She has simple routine; she studies, helps her mother in household chores and does not have any love life. She loves and adores Surya her brother. Her attention revolves around her brother and family.

How was it working with Siddhartha and Padmapriya who are superstars down South?

I shot only once with Priya as 98 percent of my shooting was done with Siddhartha. They both are phenomenal actors as when they were working on ‘Striker’ never once did I feel that they were south Indians. They were so into their character that they looked and seemed like Maharashtrians. I had a great time bonding with Siddharth and Chandan.

How was it working with director Chandan Arora?

I was taken in by Chandan when I saw his earlier simplistic movies. ‘Striker’ is much different from his earlier movies like ‘Main Meri Patni Aur Woh’ or ‘Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon’. Unlike his earlier films ‘Striker’ is hard hitting. It is a story of underbelly of Mumbai and has a strong visual impact.

Any funny incident you can recollect while shooting?

I was quite clumsy. Once I was just walking on sets while rehearsing and there was a table where all the cosmetics and stuff was put. just passed by and somehow my duppatta swiped the table clean of all the stuff, and bang it went to the floor!

What do you think of Nicolette Bird, who plays the lead role in film?

Nicolette is a very beautiful girl. She has a very important role in the film. Something will happen to her that will shock Surya (Siddharth) and also other characters. She looks like a pristine goddess from heaven in the film.

This is the second film that revolves around a sport, what’s the connection?
I think have a past life connection with sports. I played hockey in ‘Chak De India’ and now I am involved in ‘Striker’ which is a story that is related to carrom. I am glad to be associated with sports related movie.

Which are your upcoming movies?
‘Tum Milo Toh Sahi’ which has Sunil Shetty, Dimple Kapadia, Anjana Sukhani and Nana Patekar is releasing in April. It is slice of life kind of movie, which depicts different relationships.
