LONDON - Each British household loses an annual total of 2,873 pounds because they would rather lose money than complain, a new study claims.

Since Britons fail to demand refunds, good service and discounts on faulty or unwanted goods, they are missing out on possible savings of 74bn pounds a year, research from moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison service, suggests.

The one-of-a-kind study found that nine out of 10 people always pay what they are asked without asking any questions, reports The Telegraph.

The top five reasons for failing to demand better service, discounts, or replacement goods include fear of making a scene (90pc), not wanting to ask for a discount (88pc), not wanting to appear cheap (82pc), not being good at complaining (67pc) and not having time (59pc).

Clare Francis of moneysupermarket.com said: “Our Britishness appears to hold us back from being more demanding and making the most of our money. It’s understandable that people don’t want to look foolish, appear rude or make a scene, but our reserve is potentially costing us each hundreds if not thousands of pounds every year.” (ANI)
