Time Warner Cable offering free calls to Haiti

NEW YORK — Time Warner Cable Inc. is letting its customers call Haiti for free until the end of February.

The offer is good for the cable operator’s digital phone customers and will be retroactive to Jan. 12. Customers who were billed for calls to Haiti during that period will get automatic refunds in the form of credits to their accounts.

Direct calls to land lines and cell phones are included, but not calls to operators or directory assistance.

Time Warner Cable, the nation’s second largest cable operator, said the program should cover $200,000 worth of calls. The company serves more than 14 million customers.

Its shares fell $1.43, or 3 percent, to $45.13 in afternoon trading in a down market.
