* CLOONEY’S UP IN THE AIR LEADS GOLDEN GLOBES GEORGE CLOONEY’s new movie UP IN THE AIR will be the main contender at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards - it has scooped six nominations.
The film, about a lonely travelling businessman, is leading the main categories with nominations for Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Actor (Drama) for Clooney, and Best Director for Jason Reitman.
Other big challengers at the January (10) ceremony include movie musical Nine, with five nominations, while Avatar and
Inglourious Basterds both scored four.
Up in The Air will compete in the Best Picture category alongside Avatar and Inglourious Basterds, while war movie The Hurt Locker and Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire also gained nods.
Clooney will fight it out for the Best Performance By An Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama prize alongside Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart), Colin Firth (A Single Man), Morgan Freeman (Invictus) and Tobey Maguire (Brothers). The Best Actress (Drama) category includes Emily Blunt (The Young Victoria), Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side), Helen Mirren (The Last Station), Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire).
The coveted Best Director - Motion Picture prize will be a battle between Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), James Cameron (Avatar), Clint Eastwood (Invictus), Jason Reitman (Up In The Air) and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds).
In the Best Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical category, surprise hit The Hangover will face a challenge from two Meryl Streep movies, It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia, as well as (500) Days Of Summer, and Nine.
Streep has also landed two nominations in the Best Performance By An Actress In A Motion Picture - Comedy Or
Musical category for It’s Complicated and Julie & Julia - she will face up to Sandra Bullock (The Proposal), Marion Cotillard (Nine) and Julia Roberts (Duplicity). The male category includes Matt Damon.
