WASHINGTON - Kanye West has said that he is ashamed that he interrupted Taylor Swift’s MTV Video Music Awards victory speech.

The rap star appeared at Jay Leno’s new primetime show on NBC, where he said he was apologetic about the incident when he cut short ‘You Belong To Me’ hitmaker.

According to People magazine, the emcee asked him: “Have you had a tough day?”

The singer, who has received heavy criticism for having interjected to say Beyonce deserved the award, replied: “Yeah, it’s been extremely difficult. Just dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away, you know, from a talented artist or from anyone, because I only wanted to help people.”

West further spoke about the reason as to why he said Beyonce deserved the award for best female video instead of Taylor.

He said: “My entire life, I’ve only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right. And I immediately knew in the situation that it was wrong, and it wasn’t a spectacle or just - you know, it’s actually someone’s emotions, you know, that I stepped on.”

He now wants to apologize Taylor in person.

He added: “And it was very … rude, period. And, you know, I’d like to be able to apologize to her in person. I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt.” (ANI)
