KOLKATA - Maverick Bengali filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh says actor Prasenjit Chatterjee, who has acted in his “Dosar” and the latest “Shob Charitro Kalponik”, is like an extension of a director and has it in him to become a good filmmaker.

“I share a very good relation with Prasenjit and I feel he’s like an extension of a director in all my films. He understands my requirement so well that I don’t need to explain everything to him always,” Ghosh told mediapersons during an interactive session here Friday.

“I always feel that Prasenjit is a better director than an actor. He’s got a very clear idea about filmmaking. We grew together and both of us share a very good relationship. And I can say it’s very much organic.”

“If I have rewritten the history of Bengali cinema, Prasenjit has been a true partner in my filmmaking journey,” the director said.

Ghosh returned from Durban last week after attending the screening of his new Bengali film “Shob Charitro Kalponik”, which stars Prasenjit, Bipasha Basu, Jisshu Sengupta, Pauli Dam and Sohag Sen.

The film, produced by Reliance Big Entertainment Ltd, was screened in the Panorama Section of the Durban Film Festival 2009, alongside films by directors such as Woody Allen, the Dardenne Brothers, Steven Soderbergh and Michael Winterbottom among others.

“I received huge appreciation for my film in the festival. They liked the subject very much,” he said.

Written and directed by Ghosh, “Shob Charitro Kalponik” is a story of death and loss with many emotional and romantic moments.

The film is the story of Radhika’s (Bipasha Basu) journey into the life of her late poet husband Indraneel (Prasenjit) and the revelations and contradictions she learns about Indraneel as a poet and husband.
