FARRAH FAWCETT’s troubled son REDMOND O’NEAL is working hard to keep a promise to his late mother to quit drugs for good - he’s planning to enrol in a substance abuse programme as soon as he’s released from prison.

The 24-year-old son of Fawcett and actor Ryan O’Neal is serving time at a California detention centre, where he is undergoing intense treatment to kick his drug habit.

Fawcett’s best friend Alana Stewart reveals O’Neal is “doing well” and is on track to complete his rehab stint behind bars, which stems from an April (09) arrest for drug possession.

Redmond is so determined to follow through on his promise to his beloved mum, he’s arranging to go straight from his cell to another rehabilitation centre once he is allowed to walk free.

Stewart says, “He’s doing amazingly well. Ryan goes to visit him every weekend and he’s really doing well. He’s in a rehab part of the jail and he’s going to go to a regular rehab after this.”

Redmond, 24, is gradually overcoming his addiction battle with the help of the late Charlie’s Angel, who he’s convinced is watching over him.

Filmmaker Stewart adds, “He feels his mother’s with him; he feels her presence very strongly and he promised her in a phone call just before she died that he would never do drugs again, so I hope that he’s able to keep that promise.

“He’s a very wonderful little man, he just had a drug problem.”

Actress Fawcett lost her three year struggle with anal cancer on 25 June (09), aged 62.
