American singer and songwriter Willie Nelson was arrested last week for pot possession after police found out six ounces of marijuana aboard his tour bus in Texas. The legendary singer was booked into County jail after Willie Nelson admitted that the marijuana belonged to him. However, later he was released by paying $2,500 later in the day. Some media outlets have reported that the singer is convicted and will have to face a prison sentence as well, however, there is no confirmation of the news yet.

Dick DeGuerin, the criminal defense lawyer, who represented Tom DeLay and country singer Billy Joe Shaver said that Willie Nelson needs to get a good lawyer. Kinky Friedman, who was in the bus with Willie Nelson in Texas felt that the police overstepped their boundaries and it shows their real lack of priorities. He said that he joined Willie Nelson on the road before three days and the duo were working on a book together. David Friedman said that the singer rolls 24 hours a day and it is something natural for him. Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West said that the whole situation is kind of surprising, he said that Willie Nelson might face a prison sentence of 180 days and if that happens then the County Sheriff would treat him like a normal person. He said that he would make the Iconic singer cook and clean as well.

Dick DeGuerin, on the other hand said that he doubts if that would really happen as Willie Nelson is the “American hero”. At the same time, he agreed that Texas law is very strict and the judge can give any punishment. Willie Nelson’s spokesman Elaine Schock did not comment if the singer is convicted.
