DHAKA - A festival of films of yesteryears’ star Suchitra Sen will be held in Bangladesh’s Pabna town - and a day has been set aside only for women viewers.

The second instalment of the festival has a day just for women viewers, said Ram Dulal Bhoumik, member secretary of the festival organising committee.

Pabna in northern Bangladesh is organising the film fest to honour Sen, who hailed from the town and is now living in Kolkata.

Some of the films being screened this year are “Path-e Holo Deri”, “Indrani”, “Bipasha”, “Komol-Lota”, “Shurjo Torun”, “Devdas”, “Rajlakkhi-Srikanta” and “Alo-Amar-Alo”.

The eight-day film festival in Pabna, which is beginning Friday, is being organised by Suchitra Sen Smriti Shangrakhhan Parishad (SSSSP).

Film actor Razzak will inaugurate the festival, while veteran film director Amjad Hossain will be the chief guest at the opening.

Actors Sohel Rana, Ujjal and Diti are also expected to be present at the inauguration, organisers said.

“The audience is highly appreciative of Suchitra Sen’s films, which have made her a screen legend. Seeing the overwhelming response from the audience last time, we decided to hold the festival for the second time,” SSSSP convenor Mohammad Saidul Haque told the Daily Star.
