LONDON - English actress Helena Bonham Carter has been praised for capturing the Queen Mother’s “steely wistfulness” perfectly in her new movie.

Carter, 44, had sought the advice of Hugo Vickers, the Queen Mother’s biographer, for her role in The King’s Speech, and she owed much of her success to him.

“The Queen Mum is pretty hard because everyone has a fixed idea about her,” the Telegraph quoted the actress as saying at the Music Industry Trusts Award in Mayfair.

“I met a lot of people who knew her; Hugo Vickers, in particular, was very useful. I distilled what I learnt from them,” she stated.

Vickers, who was later taken on as a historical consultant, was also full of praise for the actress.

“I’ve known Helena’s family since the 80s. I showed her several DVDs of the Queen Mother talking at different phases in her life and helped her get the intonations in her voice,” he said.

“She captures her steely wistfulness perfectly,” he added. (ANI)
