Report: Comic-Con to stay in San Diego until 2015

SAN DIEGO — San Diego will be inundated by comic book collectors, celebrities and superheros every summer for at least five more years, following Comic-Con International’s decision to stay.

City officials and the company that puts on the annual comics and entertainment convention will announce a five-year contract Friday morning.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports the contracts that Comic-Con negotiated for discounted hotel rates through 2015 were key to the decision.

Despite being wooed by Anaheim and Los Angeles with offers of cheap hotel rooms and convention space, the event decided to stay in the city where it started in 1970.

Comic-Con delivers an estimated $163 million and about 130,000 attendees to the city.
