Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) - The Australian TV star who had a same sex marriage in 2008 with TV talk show host and former American Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres, has filed a petition in the LA County Superior Court to adopt her partner Ellen’s surname like people do in hetro sex marriages.

Portia de Rossi, aka, Portia Amanda Lee Rogers was born on 31 January 1973 in Horsham, Victoria, Australia. She adopted the surname de Rossi at the age of 15 intending to reinvent her in the TV career.

She married the TV talk show host Ellen deGenres whom she met back stage at an awards show. She became engaged to deGenres after she proposed her with a three-carat pink diamond ring. They married each other on August 16, 2008 at their Beverly Hills Apartment after four years of dating. The ceremony took place with just nineteen guests with their respective mothers.

The LA County Superior Court has granted her petition to adopt her wife’s surname in a closed hearing on Thursday on 23rd September 2010. Portia said in statement,

I am thrilled to legally adopt my wife’s name. I will continue to use Portia de Rossi for professional purposes.

Both the women have said that after taking an initiative step in same sex relationships they are no more interested in starting a family. Ellen who is 52 years old said in a statement,

I don’t think we’re going to have kids. We have animals, and we love them. And, you know, we are brand new aunts. Her brother and his wife just had a baby girl who’s a month old now, and its fun to be a part of that.

It’s just a huge responsibility, and I don’t know if that’s something we want to take on. We’re very happily married without children.
