LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The verdict is out and despite the critical panning that was given to the earlier films in the series Resident Evil, the latest release named Resident Evil Afterlife has stormed its way to the top of the US box office. Actress Milla Jovovich and her husband director Paul WS Anderson are enjoying the success of the 4th film in the franchisee. As per the latest news the film has grossed a whopping $27.7 million. While it was released in 4,700 screens not all of the theaters are showing the 3D version of the film. The film not only trounced the other films at the domestic box office but dethroned the Christopher Iolande directed Inception in the overseas market with an overseas collection of $46.2 million.

The latest news is that this is not going to be the last film in the Resident Evil franchisee. The actress Milla Jovovich who plays the protagonist Alice in the zombie films in the franchisee has hinted that another film might be in the making which will be the fifth film in this series. The actress has expressed her gratitude to the fans for making the new movie a hit and said that she is open for doing another film.

The visual effects used in the film Resident Evil: Afterlife are the main reason behind its success. The film has the latest 3D technology which was also used by ace director James Cameron in his magnum opus Avatar. The ending of the latest film also signifies that there will be another sequel. The fans of the series will only be too happy seeing Alice slashing the zombie sand using the evil Umbrella Corporation.
