LOS ANGELES(GaeaTimes.com) — The Screen Actors Guild has decided to acknowledge the contribution of legendary actor Ernest Borgnine in Hollywood films. He is best known for his Oscar winning performance in the 1955 classic ‘Marty’. He also graced TV shows like ‘McHale’s Navy’.

But it was the The Wild Bunch that got him noticed among the masses. The movie is often referred to as the greatest shootout film in movie history. His mere presence had the power to lift an average film to a different level altogether. The Screen Actors Guild president Ken Howard in a statement said,

Whether playing brutish villains, sympathetic everymen, complex leaders or hapless heroes, Ernest Borgnine has brought a boundless energy which, at 93, is still a hallmark of his remarkably busy life and career. It is with that same joyous spirit that we salute his impressive body of work and his steadfast generosity.

Ernest Borgnine was not the person to rest on his Laurels. It was only due to an unstable creative urge that he spurred on to star in movies like “The Poseidon Adventure”. The special thing about this stalwart is that his roles are always varied. From the ‘blink and you miss roles’ in that in “The Love Boat” to the embattled taxi driver in the Sci-Fi classic ‘Escape From New York’, he proved his mettle.

He is one of the last survivors of the Golden Age of Hollywood. So its about time that he gets the honor. The 93 year old veteran had to wait for this award for a long time. Bu as we say, it’s better late than never.

If you have got nothing to do today why not tune into any of the Ernest Borgnine classics. Be sure to post your feelings about the movie.
