Is Zara Nachke Dikha jinxed?

May 15, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):Hai dum toh Zara Nachke Dikha (Dare to dance) . That’s the theme of Star Plus’ reality show Zara Nachke Dikha. The girls dare to take on the boys on the dance floor. Unfortunately, a few soldiers have been left wounded not by the enemy, but by their own daredevilry.

At the moment, it’s the not the action on the dance floor, but the action off it that’s garnering headlines. Tragedy struck Zara Nachke Dikha, when Karan Singh Grover hurt his back and subsequently pulled out. In Grover, the show lost its biggest star. Kapil Nirmal was added as Grover’s replacement. However, the loss was irreparable.

Later on, Sushant Singh Rajput, another popular star, cut his hand. More agony was in store for Rajput who jostled from one sets to another. His body couldn’t take such load, and Sushant invariably ended up in the hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with typhoid. Ideally, that should have been the end of his Zara Nachke Dikha journey, but the show’s makers were kind enough to mark him absent for one day.

One star sidelined, the other bogged by injures and illness, the show makers must have surely thought that the bad omen has passed. Sadly, this was just the start of the beginning.

This time, the unlucky chap was Karan Kundra who first hurt his knee and then ended up breaking this thumb while enacting a difficult stunt. Though, that’s unlikely to rule him out of the competition.

For Amir Ali, there have been troubles on and off the show. He’s said to be carrying injuries on his chest and shoulder. Before the launch of show, Ali was involved in scuffle with an individual, who banged his parked car. Rumours of his separation with girl friend Sanjeeda Shiekh too made headlines.

Among the girls, Sanjeeda Shiekh, Sangeeta Ghosh and Hazel too are said to be carrying injuries.

For some, it was physical injuries but they left with bruised egos. Popular stars Mohit Sehgal and Sanaya Irani were replaced as hosts for their poor performances.

She hasn’t suffered any injury so far, but Rakhi’s Sawant’s claim of taking the show to new heights fell flat after the show’s unimpressive rating in the first week. The judges too didn’t shy away from criticizing Sawant for poor performance. Their words clearly rankled Sawant.

In its inaugural season too, the show made news for its needless controversies and unfortunate injuries. Narayani Shastri cut her nail, Manini De hurt her jaw and poor Manish Goel, who often wept on camera, dislocated his shoulder.

Quite clearly, Zara Nachke Dikha has so far made news for all the wrong news. That begs the question, is the show really jinxed?

Sushant Singh Rajput disagrees, “I don’t buy that. It’s the first time that I’m doing a reality show and a daily at the same time. Working for 20 hours obviously causes great stress to the body. For the first time, I’ve been exposed to different things and different stunts. These injuries occur because we take less precaution.”

Karan Kundra added, “I may have a broken thumb, but not for one moment have I thought of quitting. The show isn’t jinxed. Let’s put it this way, the standard has been raised to a much higher level this time. These little injuries are bound to happen when you give more than 100 percent. After I hurt my thumb, my choreographer told me not to lose focus. After a while, I simply forgot about the thumb."

Those are fine words, but the trouble is a regular occurrence of such events leads to belief that perhaps, they are not genuine.

Leading choreographer Vithal, who’s been part of popular dance reality shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Nach Baliye, disagrees, “Injuries are a reality in such shows. Often what happens is that things are executed well in technical but during the actual shoot, such follies can occur, which result in few injuries. “

A source closely associated with the show sums up saying, “Injuries are a part of any physical activity. Why should you (media) question the one suffered by the actors. They are humans too. The problem is with the media who like to report on even a scratch. Be it a controversy or minor injury, the media never fails to report the finest of details.”
