CHRIS BROWN has defended his decision to sing the American national anthem at the boxing bout between FLOYD MAYWEATHER, JR. and SHANE MOSLEY at the weekend (01-02May10) - following a raft of criticism.

The singer took the mic before the fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night (01May10) to belt out The Star-Spangled Banner, but his performance was met with a muted reaction from the crowd at the Palms Hotel.

Brown’s appearance at the event was also met with criticism from online bloggers, who slammed the decision to give the hitmaker a star turn at a boxing match, following his conviction for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna last year (09).

And the Kiss Kiss star addressed the controversy with a series of posts on his Twitter.com page.

He writes, “I’m human. How many of u r (sic) perfect? If there is no forgiveness, there is no change… I’m humbled by everything. If I wasn’t somewhat sane and loved my fans and music so damn much I would give up, but that’s not why I was put on this earth… you’ll see!”

The posts have since been removed.
