MIA FARROW has urged NAOMI CAMPBELL to “step up” and testify at the trial of Liberia’s former president - after the disgraced ex-leader was accused of gifting the supermodel with a ‘blood diamond’.

Ex-president Charles Taylor has been accused of backing rebel fighters responsible for widespread atrocities during the war in neighbouring Sierra Leone.

Prosecutors at his trial in the Netherlands have also alleged Taylor took diamonds mined in the area to South Africa to “sell… or exchange for weapons”.

Taylor is facing allegations he handed one of these ‘blood diamonds’ - a term for jewels sold to finance conflicts - to Campbell in 1997 when she attended a dinner party in South Africa, hosted by then-president Nelson Mandela.

And Farrow, who was also at the bash, is listed as a trial witness, as she alleges Campbell told her about her unusual present over breakfast the next morning.

She tells America’s ABC News, “Naomi Campbell came down… she said during the night some men had knocked on her door and she, half-asleep, had opened the door and it was representatives of President Charles Taylor and that they had given her a huge diamond. And we were like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ You don’t forget when a girlfriend tells you she was given a huge diamond in the middle of the night. There’s no doubt in my mind. All I thought was, ‘Gosh, what an amazing life Naomi Campbell has. Probably lots of men are always giving her diamonds.’”

She adds, “Absolutely (Campbell should testify), step up and do your part.”

A spokesperson for Campbell has previous stated the supermodel has been cooperating with the prosecution. But an ABC News report alleges she reacted angrily when asked about the incident at her recent charity fashion show in New York, snapping: “I didn’t receive a diamond and I’m not going to speak about that”.

Taylor, 61, has pleaded not guilty to 11 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from the brutal 1991-2001 civil war in Sierra Leone.
