Middle class parents blamed for ‘buying off’ kids

LONDON - Middle class parents have been accused of “buying their children off” with expensive gifts when not able to spend quality time with them.

A teaching union leader pointed out presenting youngsters with computers and televisions may be pushing them to lead “isolated lives”.

Dr Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, said parents were to be held responsible if their children misbehaved or failed to acknowledge authority.

“Often it’s the well-off middle classes that buy off their children through the computer and the TV, that then isolates them within the home, and then they’re surprised when their child isn’t coming to school ready to learn,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“They are not learning about give and take within the family. Children need to learn how to get on with others and to accept the authority of the teacher,” she added. (ANI)
