Lifetime TV: “Prayers For Bobby”

NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- Lifetime network’s television film “Prayer for Bobby” who tracks the true life story of a homosexual man received the GLAAD Award for the outstanding television miniseries on Saturday night. The TV film premiered on the Lifetime network on January 24, 2009 and was well received by the viewers. However, popularity among the audiences was not the only achievement that this Lifetime TV movie managed to gather as it is known to have made its presence felt in a number of leading awards where it received multiple nominations. The film is based on the Leroy F. Aarons book “Prayers for Bobby: A Mother’s Coming to Terms with the Suicide of Her Gay Son”.
The latest recognition for “Prayers for Bobby” was all the more special for the Lifetime movie as it came from the 21st Annual Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards, which honors the works in media which highlight the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community in an accurate and fair fashion. Much acclaimed actress Sigourney Weaver, who plays one of the leading characters in the movie, was present at the award ceremony last night to receive the honor for the Lifetime film.
“Prayers for Bobby” is a touching true story of a young homosexual man Bobby Griffith, who commits suicide after being depressed as his sexual orientation is considered to be unacceptable by his mother, played by Sigourney Weaver. The Lifetime TV movie witnesses a stunning performance by Sigourney Weaver, who initially struggles to come to terms with her son’s sexual orientation but later, as the story progresses, becomes an advocate of gay rights.
