Los Angeles (GaeaTimes.com) - The Hurt Locker has won a maximum of six Oscars including the most prestigious awards of Best Picture and Best Direction. Avatar had nominations in several categories but failed to grab most of them. It won three awards of Art Direction, Cinematography and Visual Effects. Jeff Bridges has won the award for best actor in a leading role and Sandra Bullock has grabbed the award of best actress in a leading role for her acting in The Blind Side. The 2010 Oscar Award Events was held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin hosted the ceremony. This year Academy Awards is on its eighty second year after it was first held in May 16, 1929. It is one of the oldest award ceremonies in the media. It is presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the excellent works in the film industry. The Oscar includes many awards for the directors, actors and writers. Many other ceremony such as the Golden Globe Awards, Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards are often said to be modeled after the Academy Awards ceremony.

The awards are chosen by the voting members of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The actual number of voting members are not known but it may be somewhere between 5000 and 6000. The membership eligibility can be achieved by competitive nomination or one may submit a name based on the significant contribution of a person to the motion picture industry.
