Cochin Haneefa Funeral

2KOCHI, KERALA (GaeaTimes.com)- The funeral of veteran actor Cochin Haneefa, who passed away on Tuesday due to liver ailments, took place at the Central Juma Masjid yesterday. The much acclaimed actor, who was 58 at the time of his death, was put to rest with state honors in his hometown. The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Following the death of the actor at a private hospital in Chennai, his mortal remains were flown to Kochi. His body was kept at his residence for a while before being shifted to Ambedkar Stadium, where people paid homage to their beloved actor.

Cochin Haneefa’s funeral was attended by a host of prominent personalities that included politicians, film personalities as well as large of number of his fans who had turned up to pay their last respects. The death of Cochin Haneefa came as a rude shock to all his fans as well as the film industry as many people were seen wiping tears as the body of the reputed character actor was laid to rest amidst gun salute.

Cochin Haneefa, who’s real name was Salim Ahmed Ghoush, established himself as one of the most versatile actors of the Malayalam movie industry. The actor is credited with around 300 Malayalam films, 80 Tamil films as well as few Hindi movies. He commenced his film career in 1979 with a minor role but gradually went one to became one of the most loved comedians of the Malayalam film industry. Later in his career, Cochin Haneefa also adorned the role of a filmmaker and went on to direct around 20 movies. One of his best known works as a director is the 1993 flick “Valtsalyam”.
