LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com) - “The Pregnancy Pact” a movie based on a true life story was premiered by Lifetime Network on Saturday. The movie dealt about the popular “pregnancy pact” where high school teenagers wanted to become mothers and experience pregnancy. The movie shows teenage girls willing to become pregnant. However, it does not send a didactic message about what to do and what not to do. The movie only depicts the story without going into the consequences.
The movie which is supposedly depicting a true life story received lukewarm responses. According to some, the movie is nice as it is open ended. It is difficult to conclude something on a complex issue like pregnancy. Moreover the perspective on pregnancy is relative. It did not attempt to establish one single truth.
Some say, “The Pregnancy Pact” which wanted to send a social message portrayed a girl smoking and drinking alcohol. Is the movie going to encourage drinking and smoking? There is again a contradiction in the movie. Camryn Manheim who plays a school nurse wants to provide contraception to its teenager students. She feels if condom is used it might prevent pregnancy. However, the movie is not about an attempt to prevent pregnancy, the true story is about the eagerness of some teenager girls to experience motherhood.
“The Pregnancy Pact” also received a little criticism for its one sided portrayal on what a girl should do in order to prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy requires the presence of both a man and a woman. However, the movie does not deal with the issue on what a man should do. Despite receiving some criticisms, the movie is well received for not overtly dramatizing the pregnancy problem.
