James Cameron hits back at critics for calling ‘Avatar’ anti-military

LONDON - James Cameron has hit back at critics who have called his blockbuster ‘Avatar’ “anti-military”.
The film, which has already become the second highest-grossing picture of all time, was panned by right-wing critics for the way Cameron portrays the military in his film.
However, Cameron claims that critics have misinterpreted his message, insisting they are thinking about the plot ‘too simplistically’.
“The anti-military thing is kind of tough for me because my younger brother Dave was a marine for six years, fought (in) Desert Storm and he’s worked for me for years,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.
“I’ve got nothing but respect for these guys and I’m a firm believer in a strong defence. My perspective is that I made my main character a marine and I viewed him with heroism and courage and intelligence and all the characteristics I thought would honour them (marines) and I think people are thinking about it too simplistically,” he added. James Cameron, if you think you’ve convinced me that AVATAR wasn’t anti-military, think again. No, actually think for once. I don’t suppose you can explain who the Nemesis was if it wasn’t the Marines? Ani - you liberals are the ones who are “too simplistic”!!!! |
