R&B star USHER has teamed up with the United Nations (U.N.) to encourage young people to help raise funds for the Haiti relief effort.

The Caribbean nation was rocked by a massive earthquake last week (12Jan10), which left thousands dead and many more homeless.

And the Yeah! hitmaker has stepped in to help the country, by setting up a partnership between his New Look charity organisation and the U.N. Foundation.

The ‘Powered By Service’ initiative is urging young people across the world to each donate $5 (?3.13) to help those hit by the disaster.

Usher says, “If only one per cent of the world?s youth population raised $5 each, we could raise $150 million to support the United Nation?s relief efforts. Disaster relief is an effort that can be ?Powered By Service? and young people can be key players in the effort. I?m challenging youth around the world to prove they have the power to have an impact on a humanitarian crisis. I know that young people have the talent, creativity and energy to assist in supporting Haiti?s needs.?
