HEROES star JIMMY JEAN-LOUIS has urged fans to help his fellow Haitians devastated by the earthquake which struck the Caribbean nation on Tuesday (12Jan09).

As many as 500,000 people are feared dead following the quake, which measured 7.3 on the Richter scale and reduced much of the poverty-stricken country to rubble.

Jean-Louis was born in Haiti, but moved to France at a young age to start a modelling career before breaking into acting and landing a role on the hit TV show.

After finding fame, the actor founded non-profit organisation Hollywood Unites for Haiti (HUFH), to raise awareness of the country’s plight and particularly help its underprivileged youth.

On Tuesday, the 41 year old took to his Twitter.com blog and the charity’s website to plead for donations to a relief fund he has set up specially for the cause.

In a post on the HUFH site, Jean-Louis writes, “After the catastrophic earthquake today, Haiti is in dire need of any help.

“With still next to no news of the outcome of this 7.0 magnitude earthquake, Hollywood Unites for Haiti pleads for any information that may be helpful to ascertain the immediate impact that this disaster has had on Haiti and its neighbouring countries.

“Basic necessities will be required: water, blankets, medication, temporary shelter and much more. Any kind of donations to relief and humanitarian charities would be greatly appreciated as Haiti really needs your help!”

People are asked to donate money or equipment online at www.hufh.org/contribute.html.
