Prosecutors in Connecticut have decided not to file criminal charges against the owner of a celebrity ape, who ripped a woman’s face off earlier this year (09).

TV chimpanzee Travis had to be put down after attacking Charla Nash, who recently revealed the extent of her horrific injuries on U.S. TV show Oprah, but his owner, Sandra Herold, will not face criminal charges.

The 14-year-old, 200-pound (90.91 kilogramme) ape appeared in numerous TV commercials.

The family of 56-year-old Nash, who are suing the ape’s owner for $50 million (GBP31.25 million), insist they are “at peace” with the decision not to press criminal charges against Herold. Their civil lawsuit against her is still going ahead and Nash’s family members are also seeking permission to sue the state for another $150 million (GBP93.75 million).
