The Four Aces Founder Alberts Dies

AL ALBERTS, the founder of hitmaking quartet THE FOUR ACES, has died at the age of 87.

The popular singer/songwriter passed away at his home in Florida on Friday (27Nov09), after reportedly suffering kidney failure.

The star founded The Four Aces with college pal Dave Mahoney and the band enjoyed huge hits throughout the 1950s, including Three Coins in the Fountain and Love Is A Many Splendored Thing - which picked up the Academy Award for Best Song in 1955.

Alberts went on to become a TV personality in Philadelphia, where he hosted the Al Alberts Showcase - a talent show for kids. He retired after 34 years in 1994.

Alberts is survived by his wife, Stella, and two sons, Al Jr. and Chris.
