U.S. talk show queen OPRAH WINFREY has ended a year-long legal dispute between her mother and bosses of a Wisconsin clothing boutique, paying out $155,547 (GBP97,220) to settle an outstanding bill.

Vernita Lee had an open-ended charge account with Brookfield boutique Valentina Inc. and racked up the bill in 2008, according to court papers.

She was sued by the company for failing to pay the bill in agreed monthly increments of $2,000 (GBP1,250).

Lee filed a counter claim, insisting she should not have to pay interest on the account because store bosses extended credit to her even though they were well aware of her troubles managing debt, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Winfrey’s payment officially settles the suit.
