Daughter says Tony Roberts had minor seizure

NEW YORK — Tony Roberts had a minor seizure during the Sunday matinee of “The Royal Family,” but is looking forward to returning to the Broadway revival of the 1927 comedy.

Roberts’ daughter Nicole says the 69-year-old actor is “feeling great” and is now taking medication.

He became ill during the preview performance and had to be taken to a hospital. The preview was canceled, but performances resumed that night with understudy Anthony Newfield taking over Roberts’ role in the Manhattan Theatre Club production.

The show is still scheduled to open Thursday but it isn’t clear when Roberts will return to the production.

(This version CORRECTS spelling of understudy’s last name to Newfield, not Newfeld.)
