The funeral service of Michael Jackson that was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. began close to 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, outside Forest Lawn Park in Glendale, California, where Michael is to be inhumed.
The funeral was attended not only by Jackson’s family, including his parents, Joe and Katherine and his children, Prince (12), Paris (10) and Blanket (7), but also celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Barry Bonds and Macaulay Culkin.
The hearse which comprised Michael’s body had an entourage of 31 cars, the likes of Rolls-Royce and Cadillac included, carrying his entire family from Encino to Forest Lawn. Police took it in their hands to transport the family safely to Forest Lawn.
This private service was extended to 250 guests, while 435 media persons were allowed to cover the service from behind barricades kept at a considerable distance away from the service. Several fans also attended the funeral but they were kept at beyond the security perimeter outside the cemetery. The Glendale police reported that the service proceeded smoothly without any hassles and nobody was arrested during or after the course of it.
It is reported that Jackson’s grave will be off-limits to his fans and they will only be allowed to see the part of the stately tomb that displays “The Last Supper Window”, a recreation of Da Vinci’s original masterpiece.
The 50 year old pop sensation died due to drug overdose on June 25. Speculations about his death have not yet died down. The coroner reasoned the cause of death to be a homicide. The death certificate states the reason to be “injection by another”.
This funeral service ends rumors that Neverland Ranch would be the place where Jackson’s body would be entombed.
