NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ retakes Sunday lead

NEW YORK — David Gregory and NBC’s “Meet the Press” are back on top one week after the Sunday show slipped to second behind ABC.

ABC’s win was the first in a decade in a clean fight — that is, without substitute hosts, sports pre-emptions or presidential visits.

Nielsen Media Research says “Meet the Press” had just under 3 million viewers, while ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” had 2.7 million.

Gregory’s top guest was national security adviser James Jones, while ABC had a health care debate between Howard Dean and Newt Gingrich.

NBC made a savvy move in also booking New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. That helped NBC win in New York, the nation’s largest media market. The network lost the previous week in the city.
