JAPANESE POP STAR SAKAI ARRESTED

Japanese pop star NORIKO SAKAI has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession after turning herself in to authorities.

The singer and her 10-year-old son disappeared last Monday (03Aug09) when her husband Yuichi Takaso, 41, was detained for alleged drug possession.

A small quantity of stimulants were discovered in her apartment, according to Tokyo police.

The 38 year old surrendered herself on Saturday (08Aug09) - two days after her son was found safe in the Japanese capital.

Bosses at Sakai’s management company have now apologised to fans for the controversy.

Sun Music President Masahisa Aizawa says, “Noriko Sakai was arrested last night and we would like to offer an apology to all her fans for the trouble caused.

“I would like her to reflect on what she has done and feel the weight of the crime she has committed.”
