Miss Arkansas 2009 announced

Sarah Slocum has been crowned as the new Miss Arkansas 2009. The 23-year-old Miss Ouachita River, Slocum won the title of Miss Arkansas on Saturday. The first runner up was Miss University of Arkansas-Fayetteville Amy Crain, 19.
Along with Miss Arkansas 2009 title Slocum also won a $20,000 scholarship provided by Ted and Shannon Boy Skokos and more than $50,000 in awards, wardrobe, transportation and gifts.
She will represent Arkansas at the 2010 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.
Slocum a native of Sheridan, received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Arkansas and is a second-year law student at the school. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 2004.
For her talent presentation at the pageant, Slocum sang “The Prayer.” Her platform issue is “Paving the Way: Encouraging Higher Education.”
