A Mid-’Summer’s Nightmare! Babysitter Arrested For Lewd Conduct With Ward

According to the Los Angeles Times, a 28 year-old woman from Post Falls, Idaho has been arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with the 14 year-old boy that she had been hired to watch over, in the August of 2007.
The police arrested Summer Nelson, based on the findings of a seven-month long investigation that suggested beyond reasonable doubt, that Nelson had had at least four separate instances of sexual encounters with her ward in August 2007, although the information thereof had come to light only much later.

According to the information obtained from court records, Nelson was a friend of the boy’s mother. However, it was his mother who told her, when Nelson’s excessive attention to the boy, triggered off her suspicions, leading to her lodging a complaint only in December 2008.

The delay in reporting was further compounded by the long drawn out investigation that spanned seven whole months before finally concluding in the recent arrest. Nelson, had been, as revealed by the investigation, on various occasions, left in charge of the boy and his two younger siblings. The encounters are believed to have taken place during these instances. Apparently, Nelson had also been telling the younger siblings that she was in love with their brother.

Although the trial is yet to be conducted, the general speculation seems to be that, if convicted, she could be facing a lifetime of prison sentence, against the four counts of “lewd conduct with a child” that she has been charged with. For the time being, following her arrest, she is being held in the Kootenai County Jail against a bond amount of $50,000. Sources are unclear as to whether or not she is being represented by legal counsel at present.
