Broadway’s 3 Billys win 2009 Astaire Awards

NEW YORK — Broadway’s three Billy Elliots have danced off with Astaire Awards.

David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik (COE’-wall-ick) and Kiril (KA’-reel) Kulish (COO’-lish) will share the prize for best male dancer on Broadway for their performances as the title character in “Billy Elliot.” Peter Darling, also of “Billy Elliot,” received the award for best Broadway choreographer.

The prize for best female dancer went to Pia Glenn for her sizzling interpretation of a kinetic Condoleezza Rice in Will Ferrell’s “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush.”

The award for best film choreographer was given to Longines (LONG’-ee-ness) Fernandes (FER’-nan-dez) for his work on “Slumdog Millionaire.”
